Kindergarten Grade Procedures

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Paakuma’ School, we are happy to welcome you to the new school year!  We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential.  We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school.  We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.  As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.  We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring the he/she:

1.                    1. Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience.

2.              2. Completes all homework assignments given by teachers.

3.              3. Reads daily to develop a love of reading and to improve literacy skills

4.              4. Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college

Below are our kindergarten policies so that you and your child can review them together.  If you have any questions about the policies and expectations, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.  It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year.

Kindergarten Policies and Expectations

 

Water Bottles

During instructional time students will be allowed to keep water bottles with them at their desks. Make sure that it is labeled.  (No juice, soda, flavor packets, etc.)

 

Birthday Parties Kinder-3rd Grade ONLY

Students will be recognized in the classroom and throughout the day on their birthday.  However, in order to maximize instructional time, birthday parties will not occur.  This is a school-wide policy.

Parents are permitted to bring treats to school for their child's birthday. HOWEVER, arrangement must be made with the classroom teacher 2 days in advance. Treats are only allowed in the last 15 minutes of the school day. Treats MUST also be store packaged, no homemade food.

If balloon or flower arrangements are delivered to the school they will remain in the office until the end of the day.

If you would like to deliver the treats or be in the classroom you MUST complete the parent volunteer process. Please see the parent volunteer tab for more information.

Volunteers

Please submit your application to the front office. Make sure you submit your application with due time as it takes a month or 2 to get approval. Please see the parent volunteer tab for more information.

Emergency clothes

Please provide a weather appropriate outfit for your student in a clear Ziploc bag in case of any emergency. Include top, bottom, undergarments, and socks. We will do a switch out around winter time.
